FAQ
All the answers to your questions.
What are the risks of not replacing a defective airbag?
Defective Takata airbags can burst when deployed and send metal fragments flying into the passenger compartment. This can cause serious or even fatal injuries. Affected vehicles must be repaired as soon as possible.
How do I know if my vehicle is affected?
You can check immediately with your registration number by calling our telephone agent for instant verification, or by visiting your car manufacturer's official website with your VIN.
Where can I find my VIN?
Your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is printed on your vehicle registration certificate.
My VIN was not found. Does this mean my vehicle is not affected?
If your VIN does not appear in a database, your vehicle may not be affected. However, databases are not always exhaustive or updated in real time. To be sure, also check your manufacturer's official website or contact its customer service.
What should I do if my vehicle is affected?
Contact an authorised repairer for your brand immediately to schedule the airbag replacement. Some manufacturers let you book directly online or by phone.
Is the recall mandatory?
Yes. The recall is essential if your vehicle is affected. Heat, humidity and vehicle age can accelerate the deterioration of airbag components, increasing the risk of explosion in a collision.
What is a “stop drive”?
A stop drive is an urgent recall that requires you to stop using the vehicle immediately. The manufacturer must then provide a quick solution: home repair, free towing or a replacement vehicle.
Should I drive my defective vehicle to the repair shop?
For an urgent recall (stop drive), the manufacturer must arrange home repair, free transport of your vehicle, or another suitable solution.
Do I have to pay for the airbag replacement?
No. Replacing airbags under the Takata recall is completely free. The manufacturer covers 100% of the costs.
Does the defect affect one or several airbags in my vehicle?
It depends on the model. The manufacturer must tell you whether one or several airbags are affected.
Are there alternative mobility solutions?
Yes. If your vehicle is under a stop drive recall and the appointment is more than 15 days away, the French decree of 28 July 2025 requires manufacturers to provide, free of charge, a courtesy vehicle, a rental vehicle or equivalent alternative transport.
Can I keep driving my vehicle if it is affected by the recall?
For a stop drive, you must stop driving the car immediately.
If the recall is not urgent (not a stop drive), you can keep using the vehicle. Because so many vehicles are affected, recalls are staggered by priority until 2026.
